Nearly 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers will experience perinatal depression and anxiety that is often hidden and not fully understood, and unfortunately involves a lot of stigma. It impacts around 100,000 Australians each year.
Gidget Foundation Australia raises awareness of perinatal depression and anxiety and provides support for those in need. They provide support services for families suffering emotional distress during pregnancy and early parenting, and provide education and awareness programs for health professionals and the community.
They exist to support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents and ensure they receive timely, appropriate and specialist care.
